Who we are
The Department of Civil Engineering and Architecture (DICAr) is one of the two engineering departments at the University of Pavia. Bringing together more than 40 faculty members and over 100 researchers, postdoctoral fellows, PhD candidates, and research fellows, it represents an active academic community committed to excellence in education and innovation in research.
Located within the Science Campus on Via Adolfo Ferrata, known locally as “La Nave” (“The Ship”) for the distinctive architecture of its buildings, the Department offers a modern and stimulating environment. State-of-the-art lecture halls equipped for digital teaching, dedicated study areas, spacious laboratories with unique facilities at the national level, a library, and a cafeteria ensure an outstanding learning and research experience.
DICAr is organised into three Sections, "Architecture and Territory", "Hydraulics, Environment and Energy", and "Structures and Materials", each comprising specialised research units and laboratories. Research activities span from traditional areas to cutting-edge topics, addressing the challenges of Civil and Environmental Engineering as well as Architecture.
Research directly enriches the Department’s teaching offer, which currently includes: Bachelor’s Degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering, Professional Bachelor’s Degree in Digital Technologies for Construction, Environment and Territory, Master’s Degrees in Civil Engineering, Environmental and Territory, and Civil Engineering for Mitigation of Risk from Natural Hazards (taught in English), Single-Cycle Master’s Degree in Building Engineering-Architecture. Through this integration of research and teaching, DICAr provides students with advanced knowledge, practical skills, and the opportunity to contribute to innovative solutions for the built environment and sustainable development.
